Violin Lessons
Individual instruction for students of all ages and levels.
I love helping people find their own artistic voice in their violin playing. My teaching combines a strong technical foundation with curiosity, creativity, and a deep attention to sound and expression. Weather a student is looking to prepare for a specific audition or goal, take their playing to the next level, expand their musical range, or receive guidance in navigating a career in music from a working professional, lessons are tailored to each student’s individual goals.
Teaching Philosophy
For me, learning the violin is about developing a relationship with sound, learning how to listen, and discovering how technique can serve one’s desires in musical expression and phrasing.
I believe students thrive when they are challenged while also encouraged to be curious and independent. A teacher’s experience can provide a valuable foundation, but ultimately each student needs to discover what works for them.
I work with each student to develop a strong technical foundation while making space for creativity, individuality, and joy in playing.
Technique
I like to think of technique on the violin as a sort of toolbox. The more techniques you know, the more tools you have as you approach different repertoire. The better your tools are depends on your mastery of each technique you learn. In lessons I have a thoughtful approach to posture, bow technique, intonation, shifting, vibrato, and sound production through the use of standard violin etudes and exercises mixed with a bit of my own practice techniques that continue to help me as I constantly take in new repertoire.
Musicianship
Developing listening, rhythm, phrasing, musical imagination, and an understanding of the music at hand. I believe that we are our own best teachers when we know how to listen to ourselves meticulously. I teach students how to listen to themselves to achieve the expression and characters they desire out of the music they are learning.
Individuality
I work with students to develop confidence and a personal relationship to the violin, helping them learn to communicate their unique personality and human experience through music.

As a violinist, composer and a member of the GRAMMY-winning Attacca Quartet, I have spent much of my career performing, collaborating, and working with musicians across a wide range of styles and settings. I bring that experience into my teaching, with particular attention to listening, chamber music, sound, and developing an individual artistic voice.
Lessons
Lessons are offered in person, online, or both, and are typically 30/45/60 minutes, although longer lessons are available when the necessity arrises. Lesson length and frequency can be tailored to the student’s age, level, and goals.
